Joe from Honduras?

A cup of Joe? You might not have heard this expression before, but it was widely used to describe a cup of black coffee in the early part of 1900s. Why Joe? There are many theories as to how that name came about. We’re leaning towards the one that suggests “Joe” was synonymous with “fellow” or “guy”, signifying that a cup of black coffee was the drink of the common man.

There’s nothing common about our coffee though! In the central highlands of Honduras, the local agricultural cooperative, COMISUYL (Cooperativa Mixta Subirana Yoro Limitida) is setting new standards in sustainable coffee production and processing.

By implementing educational coffee programs to help its farmers improve quality and yields, COMISUYL is taking great steps towards stopping the deforestation in Honduras caused by the excessive coffee production - and we are really proud to be a part of this journey.

So next time you enjoy a cup of Joe, a purple flat white or a pink latte at your local Joe & The Juice, we hope you’re reminded of the story and craftmanship behind this amazing beverage.

Fun fact: our coffee color codes are invented by us and won’t be found anywhere else in the world. If you have a “yellow double shot on oat” as part of your daily vocabulary, you’re already part of the family ;)
