The JOE-Tapes: Rosenstand

Posted by

For the second “JOE-Tape” we have chosen our Head of Human Resources, Frederik Rosenstand. The tape is strongly influenced by the good old classic RnB artist such as Usher and Justin Timberlake, but combined with artist like Sango and SPZRKT, Frederik shows a good understanding of where the RnB scene it heading. When we met up with the mastermind himself, he had this to say:

How long have you been in Joe & The Juice?

I started as a juicer back in 2007. Shortly thereafter, I began as a bar manager. After a couple of years behind the bar, I got the opportunity to work with HR, and that slowly developed into a full time position. I’m going on my 5th year as head of the HR department.

What piece of music ignited your passion for music?

Well, that’s hard to pin down. I normally listen to a lot of different music, but I’ll have to say ‘The Chemical Brothers’. I think when I heard their music for the first time, I realized that there were a whole new world of music. I started out with an enormous interest in electronic music, which later turned into RnB.

What’s the best JOE Track of all time?

You know, with the flow in the bars we all kinda flow with the music, so a lot of the tracks become ‘’the best’’ track. But I remember in my early days as a juicer, we were listing to this one track called ‘Italian Coffee Shop’. The track itself is not that good, it has this very 90’ dance/disco vibe over it and a guy sings this varied lyrics about life and how it’s like a Italian coffee shop. But it just fitted ambiance back then.

What’s your favorite track on your JOE-Tape?

Usher - Seduction. I heard it in a Soulaction mix, and for some reason I just couldn’t stop listening to it. That’s undoubtedly my favorite track right now.

The JOE-Tape is your chance to promote a less-known artist. Who did you choose?

Boom Clap Bachelors. The thing I like about this group is, first of all it’s a Danish group. But I really like how they manage to compose an international sound, and still keep the Danish roots. The track I have put on the list is ‘Tiden Flyver’. It’s a song from 2008, and in 2012 Kendrick Lamar sampled the guitar riff for his song ‘Bitch Don’t Kill Me Vibe’.
